Hello all! Today's entry isn't as bright and cheery as the others, unfortunately. It has been brought to my attention that there is an art thief who has been taking your perler bead deviations and claiming that they are his. I am writing this journal in hopes of spreading the news and starting a wide search of his profile for more proof of his misconduct.
Keep in mind that perler beading is an art-form that allows others to copy sprites and create their own versions of the original, with slight differences in color or size. Most sprites (like the smaller Pokemon and Mario sprites) are considered "public property" due to the following reasons:
-Sprites can be created by a copyrighted artist, like Nintendo, for a separate use.
-Sprites can be created based off a certain image, like a painting or person.
When a sprite is based off a video game character, for example, the image used is public property and belongs to the original creator through the means of copyright. Creations like these are considered fan-art, which is legal because artists are not claiming that the said image is their own idea. Due to this, anyone can redo the sprite over and over again without being considered art theft. Example:
These two pieces are almost identical, yet it is not considered art theft because the Hylian Crest is "public property" owned by Nintendo. Instead, we call this fan-art.
The only true art theft in this particular category occurs when the original is taken and used as a claim of achievement or if the sprite is based off an original idea. The latter can be relinquished of the title if proper crediting to the original artist is present. Example:

^ This is illegal and considered art theft. ^
^ This is legal and NOT considered art theft. Wacker00 credited the person that stitched the sprite and I credited him for the perler sprite. If I hadn't, I would be considered an art thief. ^
Upon researching the reposter in question, I have discovered some valuable proof against him. While he does make his own pieces, he has taken the originals of others and added it to his collection.

I ask of all of you to investigate these profiles and try to pinpoint potential misconduct. If you cannot do that, please share this journal to other perler bead artists and help this catch on. We desperately need to stop these thieves.
If you find that Diego posted a creation that is yours or one that you know, I urge you to send me a note with the links for both so that I can add it to my case. If we gather enough evidence, I will be able to present this to many of the art theft reporting groups and they can help us stop this thief.
