Deviants

Hello everyone, I'm starting a new thing around here.
I wanted to review and critique some huge perler beads work for quite some time. Now that I am part of this group and co actually post journal I want to go to the next level.

The first ones might be not that great but I'll try my best and improve along the way.

So here it is, like an actual critique but on deviation who doesn't have one.

The work in question was made by :iconphantasm818:

Pokemon Trainer (Complete) by phantasm818

Devious Rating 4.5/5
Vision 5/5
Originality 4/5
Technique 4.5/5
Impact 4/5

First I doesn't want to give free point because I like this deviation. It's a superbe show off of what you
can do with perler beads. A large variety of colors used. Orange, blue, green, black, purple and red. You cannot deny this is actually worth putting it into a frame so this could be like a painting but with beads.

Talking of the sprite. Abysswolf is one those spriters that always provide details, lights, shadows variety of colors. You have done such a great work with beads. I'll say I'm quite amazed with the shadows on this one. Charizard especially is looking fabulous. The colors really show off the musculature of the arms wich I'm impressed actually.

Now let's talk about size around 16000 + so yeah. Forget about your 4000 best work this guy was going for the next level. The pantheon of perler beads is quite small, but I could really see this one in it.

I guess the three other characters in this one should jealous about charizard and his special treatment.

Overall, a real rare and good perler beads piece that need some applause and bravo from me and the community (I guess ^^)

Tell me what you think of it and if you want more of it in the future.
Also sorry if you have seen the journal earlier, I forgot to put the information on what the deviation was, my bad !

I've had several large bead projects fall apart while ironing them. Any suggesions, tricks, or advice to avoid this?

I would suggest to use masking tape, you should find some videos on the masking tape method for perler beads on Youtube.

I need a bit of help. I've been using masking tape method to iron. The first problem is the tape stocks and I have to scrape it off( not to big of a deal). The second problem is the beads aren't fusing together properly. ( the main sides r joining together so it still holds but the corners of the bead aren't.)

First what kind of masking tape are you using ? I personally use the one for peinture. I think the brand is Scotch, blue one.

For the beads, what brand are you using ? Because they might not melt together if in some sense the beads are too far away for each other. That's the reason I actually see.

The masking tape brand i'm using is Nasco (my dad just bought one for me.)

The beads are your standard perler bead, i have bought both individual packets and the 11k random assortment. I also thought that it might be to far from each other, but if so then the whole strip where it was "loose" should be un melted like the rest. But only some of them are fully melting, while others aren't.

Maybe your masking tape is too sticky. Then, with the heat of your iron, it sticks even more to your beads. So, maybe try a masking tape that is less sticky, but sticky enough to hold your beads (I think the one that Cimenord talks about is great, just a masking tape that you use when you paint).

For the melting, I don't really understand your problem and why it's happening to you, so I'm just going to give you some advices ^^. Maybe try different settings on your iron. Then, you could try also ironing in a circular way, or even focus your iron on the beads that are not melting.
I read somewhere that if your beads are too old, they don't melt good (maybe you bought some beads a long time ago, and some recently). Also, if you live in the US, some of the stores sell beads too. I don't know if you bought your 11k jar in one of those store, but the beads might not be Perler, like those one.
I don't have more ideas, sorry. I hope that you can resolve your problem :)

Yeah, the easiest way to do that is to convert your image into pixels. There are also :
mypixelpal.com/
sites.google.com/site/degenatr…
beadforge.com/
dolkow.se/perler/
www.zed-ex.com/BeadSurge.aspx

So you have plenty of choices ^^
